Addition of foreigners subject to the obligation to submit a tuberculosis diagnosis certificate

The Ministry of Justice has announced some additional information among foreigners who are obligated to submit a tuberculosis diagnosis report.

The Ministry of Justice, in order to strengthen the management of foreign tuberculosis patients, ’22. As of December 1 , 2019, we inform you that it has been decided to make it mandatory for foreigners who hold multiple visas and enter the country 6 months after the visa issuance date and for registered foreigners who have stayed in countries with a high risk of tuberculosis for more than 6 months to submit a tuberculosis diagnosis.

□ Persons subject to mandatory submission of tuberculosis diagnosis (additional)

In addition to those subject to the existing tuberculosis diagnosis , the following subjects are also obliged to submit

① (Multiple visa holders )

: If a citizen of a high-risk country for tuberculosis holds a multiple visa that allows long- term stay and enters the country 6 months after the visa issuance date, it is compulsory to submit a tuberculosis diagnosis when registering as an alien.

※ If you complete alien registration with a multiple-entry visa that allows for long-term stay and complete departure, and enter the country with the same multiple-entry visa 6 months after the date of complete departure for alien registration, you must also submit a tuberculosis diagnosis.

② (Registered foreigner)

: When a registered foreigner from a country with a high risk of tuberculosis applies for an extension of stay, it is mandatory to submit a tuberculosis diagnosis report if he or she has stayed in a country with a high risk of tuberculosis for more than 6 consecutive months within one year from the date of application.

※ If the departure destination is not a high-risk country for tuberculosis, it is not subject to submission of a tuberculosis certificate

□ High-risk countries for tuberculosis (35 countries)

• Nepal, East Timor, Russia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, India, Indonesia, China, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, Laos, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Republic of Moldova, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Peru, Papua New Guinea

□ Where is the tuberculosis certificate issued?

Tuberculosis diagnosis can be issued at hospitals nationwide and at general public health centers.

However, foreigners must use a hospital designated by the Ministry of Justice for other health checkups other than tuberculosis diagnosis.
