E9, H2 foreigner visa Automatic extension of the period of stay in Korea

The government has decided to extend the period of stay on its own for E-9 and H-2 visas, which are legal work visas in Korea.
To alleviate the difficulty in supply and demand for foreign workers due to COVID-19, the government has decided to extend the period of stay for foreign workers (E9, H2) foreigners ex officio as follows.

Target person

As a foreigner with non-professional employment (E-9) or visiting employment (H-2) qualification whose employment period (3 years or 4 years and 10 months) expires between April 13, 2021 and December 31, 2021 , Effective date (April 13, 2021) Legally staying in Korea
※ However, in the case of visiting employment (H-2) qualifications, only those who have been notified of starting employment

Excluded from direct extension (automatic extension)

• Completely departed from the country • Those who have left
overseas at the time of the enforcement date (‘21.4.13.) • Those who have
already submitted a complaint, such as permission to extend the period of stay through visit or online
• The deceased, the unidentified person, health insurance ‧ tax delinquent
• Before the extension of authority the period for departure extends (the Immigration Control Act enforcement rules Article 32) or deferred departure date who received the (Immigration Act enforcement regulations Article 33)

• Those who received permission for re- employment through the competent Employment and Labor Administration before the effective date (’21. 4. 13.)

Extended treatment method

• General eligible persons other than those subject to ex officio extension processing will be extended ex officio up to one year from the expiration date of their stay .
※ However, for those who do not have a place of work at the time of the enforcement date, they are extended by 3 months from the expiration date of stay.


Notice

• Even if you visit the competent immigration/foreignment office, etc., the extended period of ex officio will not be marked on the alien registration card.

• The result of the action can be checked using the passport number, nationality and date of birth information on the Hi Korea website (www.hikorea.go.kr) → Check the expiration date of stay.
